VSE Association State Scholarship Judging

VSE Association State Scholarship Judging will be completed on February 5, 2023, which includes judging for the ENF Most Valuable Student and the VT State Roger Sheridan scholarship applications.
 
If you are a lodge scholarship committee chair, scholarship committee member, or an interested member, we invite you to participate in this judging process in one of three ways:
 
1) On-premise (Springfield Elks Lodge 1560) Sunday 2/5 – Noon:
  • Participants can bring their laptops to log in and judge directly applications assigned (this is a great option for 1st-time committee members)
  • Paper judging forms w/ paper applications which will then be entered into the portal
2) Remote via Google Meets Sunday 2/5 – 12:30 PM:
  • The meeting will start remotely at 12:30 PM (30 mins behind the on-premise)
  • Participants will judge directly from the portal applications assigned.
3) Remote Judging unassisted Thursday 2/2 – Saturday 2/4:
  • Participants who know what to do and just want to be able to complete application judging at their convenience from Thursday 2/2 – Saturday MIDNIGHT 2/4
  • Participants will judge directly from the portal applications assigned.

Newport Elks # 2155 Scholarship winners

Newport Elks # 2155 handed out $ 250 scholarships to local high school seniors at there flag day ceremony Wednesday night . 

Steve Edgerley scholarship chairman presented certificates to l-r:  Zachary Barrup of Lake Region, Alexander Haugwitz and Sasha Morton of North Country Union . Shelby Morin of NCUHS also received a scholarship but was unable to attend.

SPRINGFIELD ELKS AWARD ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIPS

Annually, Springfield Elks Lodge 1560, tries to do their part in the community by rewarding area high school graduates with scholarships.  This year was no different as six graduates received $500 scholarships
 
    The list starts with three from Springfield High School and three from Green Mt. Union High School.  They were Sofia Gulick of SHS the daughter of Kathleen and Barry Gulick and she’ll be attending Simmons College.  Owen Kelley of SHS and the son of Scott & Angella Kelley and he will be attending Northern Vt., Univ.  Samantha Mirra of SHS the daughter of Elizabeth & Joseph Mirra and she’ll be attending Springfield College.  From GMUHS are Sadie Wood daughter of MIchael & Julie-Lynn Wood and she will be attending Duke Univ.  Ben Haseltine the son of Mary & Matthew Haseltine will be attending The Hartt School.   The third GMUHS is Alexia White daughter of Venessa White and she will be attending James Madison Univ.
 
    Chairman of the Springfield Elks scholarship committee is Jackie Driscoll-Page and committee members are PER Vicki, Treasurer Karen Whitney and member Gay Mobus.   The committee works very hard to narrow all the applications down to three great students.

Williamstown Student wins Essay Contest and PER Scholarship

Brandon Carrier of Williamstown, son of Jack and July Carrier, submitted the winning essay in the Barre Elk’s Lodge Past Exalter Ruler Essay contest and received one of 5 $1,000 scholarships.   Brandon was very active at Williamstown  High school including being a 3 sport athlete.   He was a member of the boys’   soccer state finalist team in the fall, state championship basketball team in the winter,  and state finalist in Golf, a sport that he lobbied for as Williamstown tried to include more students in extra-curricular activities.  Brandon is a member of the National Honor Society, mentors younger children, coaches and referees youth sports and has been a leader on the field and court as well as the classroom and community.  Brandon will be studying at UVM in the fall.

Barre Elks Lodge 1535 Awards Scholarships at Spaulding High School

The Past Exalted Ruler’s (PER) Association of Barre Elks Lodge 1535 presented 3  $1000 scholarships to Spaulding High School Graduating Seniors.    Receiving Scholarships at the Spaulding High School Awards Night were: Natalie Dunn, Brittany Laskowski, and Parker Nolan.   PER Chip Paine presented a $1000 check to each on behalf of the Lodge PER Association.
