Vermont Elks North District Hoop Shoot held at North Country Union HS in Newport, Vt.

Saturday January 2nd the Vermont Elks North District hoop shoot was held at NCUHS. The winners of this contest will compete against winners from the Central and Southern Districts on January 30th at Spaulding High School.

On Sunday December 20th the Windsor Elks Lodge #1665 Windsor Vermont sponsored a local hoop shoot contest. The contest was open to girls and boys ages 8 to 13, They competed in groups of girls 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13. The boys were grouped similarly 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13. Below is a picture of the winners and the event chairpersons. Starting at the rear left to right. Spreading a little christmas spirit with fruit baskets

On Saturday December 19th the Windsor Elks Lodge #1665 delivered 136 fruit baskets to people in the area that we felt needed some Christmas company and friendship.

WINDSOR ELKS LODGE #1665 HOLDS CHRISTMAS PARTY

On Dec 13th the Windsor Elks Lodge #1665 put on a Christmas party for 36 children with 47 adults attending as well. The event started out with breakfast being served which included scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage links and patties, home fries, pancakes, fruit, and a variety of fruit juices. Coffee was also served for the adults. Next Santa arrived and greeted the children and handed out gifts. Santa was done by our ER Gary (Herbie) Hurlburt who did an excellent job again this year.

Eagle Scout Louis (Will) Hallstrom receives Certificate of Merit

A Certificate of Merit was presented to Eagle Scout Louis (Will) Hallstrom of Boy Scout Troop No. 759 by Barre Elks Lodge Exalted Ruler Stacy Holden.  Will obtained his Eagle Scout rank by working diligently to replace the WWII memorial in Northfield Falls with a new 4 x 10 foot granite monument.
Will received the certificate for his achievement in attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. Will’s dedication to the principles of the Scout Oath and Scout Law have demonstrated what Scouting stands for;  building character, developing a sound mind, volunteerism, and always being prepared to assist in times of need.

St. Albans Elks Lodge #1566 HoldS Their Annual Hoop Shoot Contest

2015 ELKS HOOP SHOOT COMPETITION  RESULTS

The annual Elk’s Hoop Shoot competition was held at BFA St Albans on Saturday December 5.  There were 67 participants and the following placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in their divisions.  The 1st place winners will advance to the Regional Competition at North Country High School on January 2, 2016 at 10:00 am.  Thanks to the following individuals for their help running the event   Cathy Moss, Paul Charbonneau, Robin Trombley, Mary Brouillette,Margaret Montcalm, Joe Montcalm, Gerard Bailey, Tamara Gagne, Sandy Bracey, Lee Paquette, Isabel Paquette, Dan Ploof, Mark Hojaboom and Ed Morgan

SPRINGFIELD ELKS LODGE #1560 ANNUAL HOOP SHOOT CONTEST

    Springfield Elks Lodge held their 44th annual Elks Basketball Hoop Shoot at Riverside Middle School gym on November 21st.
    Boys and girls, ages eight to thirteen competed to represent Springfield Lodge at the Southern District Hoop Shoot to be held at Springfield High School onJanuary 9, 2016.  All first place winners on Saturday will now compete in the districts.
    Winners on Saturday were the following; in the 8 & 9 year old group for girls, Hannah Zierfus making 9 of 25 bested Avery Howard for 2nd place.  For the boys, Nathan Leonard  made 10 of 25 and Kaiden Sheridan finished 2nd.   In the 10 & 11 age group for girls was Kayla Quelch making 9 of 25 as she bested Arianna Cioffi.  For the 10 & 11 year old  boys winner was Dylan McCarthy who made 15 of 25 and in 2nd place was Braden Morrie.  There were not any 12 &13 girls present.  In the 12 & 13 year old division for boys, in first place was Noah Zierfus, making 15 of 25 with Tyler Leining finishing in 2nd place
    All first and second place winners received a nice trophy and each participant of the Hoop Shoot received a take home Elks gift for participating.

SPRINGFIELD FAMILY CENTER RECEIVES ELKS NATIONAL FOUNDATION GRANT

    On November 14, 2015, the Springfield Elks Lodge #1560 presented the Springfield Family Center a check for $2000 to be used in their many departments like the food shelf, holiday dinners, etc.  These Elks National Grant’s are awarded to the Lodges who have met their annual per capita and are to be given to community causes that need funds to make their programs successful.
    A check was presented to Family Center Director Michael Weiss by Springfield Elks Lodge Exalted Ruler Vicki Siliski.  Also on hand for the presentation was, Vt. Elks State President Fred Dusalban of Burlington Lodge #916.
    The proceeds of the check were allocated to Springfield Elks Lodge as a Gratitude Grant from Elks National Foundation.   Giving this Grant to the Family Center was the Elks’ way of becoming more involved in the community and that is what Elks National preaches.   Springfield Lodge was also awarded an additional $500 which was given to the Springfield Parks and Recreation department recently for their Springfield Youth Pee Wee football program.
    All Grants awarded from Elks National Foundation have to been given to community programs, not kept for Lodge functions.
